The Singh family indoor and outdoor pools project required artisanship, detailed engineering, an in-depth understanding of integrated technology, with thorough communication and collaboration across many partnerships, in order to exceed the client’s expectations.
DeSimone’s relationship with the Singh family started with the company’s commercial construction management of several new medical office renovations. When the family wanted to build a custom French country estate in Cherry Hill, NJ, they contacted DeSimone. In partnership with Holliday Architects, DeSimone was awarded the job. Shortly before breaking ground, the homeowners were approached by a neighbor who was selling a sprawling estate that had everything the family needed, with the exception an indoor pool house that was part of their original building plan. The Singhs decided to purchase the palatial home and add on their dream pool.
DeSimone, in collaboration with Holliday Architects, Liquid Design, two interior designers - K Gallery Art & Design and Perkins Design, and Chetti Landscaping, embarked on the 5,000-square-foot pool house project, which eventually expanded into the addition of an outdoor pool with stunning fire and fountain features, a blue stone patio with fire pit, a renovated outdoor spa with a fire feature, a putting green, and meticulous landscaping. The project also included a kitchen, bar, lounge, bathroom, changing rooms, expansive shower, laundry room, mechanical rooms, automated pool equipment, skylights, and a staircase leading from a handsomely finished basement to the pool house.
DeSimone faced the challenge of integrating the existing architecture with the new structure and finding the original building materials to seamlessly tie in all elements. With the assistance of the original builder, materials were sourced from as far as California and Canada to achieve this goal.
With every project comes challenges. In addition, to having the task of matching new materials to the existing structure, the team had to respect and care for some of the existing vegetation, as well as deal with space confinement, relocating utilities and drainage systems, adjoining the vintage passageway from the existing home to the pool house, meeting structural requirements for under slab mechanical systems, engineering the roof structure for open concept, and executing the intricate and complex shower backlit panel. All of these challenges took a deep level of understanding, communication, and collaboration.
Dennis DeSimone had nothing but praise for the design-build and construction management team members. “The architecture firm, and specifically architectural designers John DiNisio and Robert Nehring, was extremely responsive to meeting the demands of the underground and above-ground structural elements and mechanical systems that were required for this indoor pool project. The truss company was also very helpful in designing the roof truss system to ensure the project’s contemporary look and feel. And the trades were incredibly flexible with the required coordination that came with the complexity of the project. Everyone involved in this project had their heart in it,” he shared.
The owners desired a high-quality, luxurious indoor pool. That said, eye-catching elements and materials imported from Italy and Dubai, are featured in the space. No detail was spared. Next-level lighting and temperature controls showcase the space’s artistic design, while also offering ease of use, functionality, and instantaneous ambiance enhancements.
