As DeSimone Construction prepares to mark 50 years in business in 2024, we’ve spent some time recently reflecting on our past, evaluating our present, and considering our future. This contemplation will lead to
changes you’ll be seeing soon, including an enhancement in our brand, a change in our office location, and this blog issue, through which we invite you to join us on our continuing journey.
In the beginning…
While DeSimone Construction was technically incorporated as a business entity in 1972, the DeSimone family roots in construction started with Albert and Dennis’ father, Anthony’s grandfather, Albert. He informally ran a construction business, making renovations for neighbors, where his sons gained first-hand knowledge of the industry.
After graduating from Delaware Valley University with a Chemistry degree, Dennis founded DeSimone Construction in 1974. As primarily a carpentry business, he was hands-on working in the field, along with other contractors, completing rough carpentry and finished work projects. Joined by his brother Al, the duo focused primarily in the residential space, completing their first home in the founding year.
From field construction to construction management…
In 1982, Dennis transitioned from working in the field to focus on what would become the company’s sweet spot, overseeing the entire construction process. He completed the bidding process, managed the residential and commercial projects, and oversaw the DeSimone Construction office staff and 15 full-time carpenters. Other members of the DeSimone family also lent their talents to the company’s success. In 2009, Dennis’ daughter Patience began working for the family business doing estimating, a position she held for approximately seven years. He fondly recalls her integral role in establishing the company’s foundation and culture. Patience would have likely still been with our family business but, sadly, she passed away in 2016.
Adding Technology to Master the Details
Growing up in the family business, as Albert’s son, I always had a passion for construction. With a degree in computer science, and a couple of successful internet businesses under my belt, I returned to my roots in 2012, joining my father and uncle as a DeSimone Construction Project Manager. It’s been an adventure and a privilege to apply my advanced knowledge of technology to help our company master the intricate and multifaceted construction details. This includes developing and managing programs that provide our clients, designers, and architects with on-line tracking of construction projects in progress, as well as ensuring our subcontractors and material suppliers have the most recent project plans and specifications. The success of these programs has been well received by clients, professionals, tradesmen and peers, earning DeSimone Construction much respect in the industry.
Approaching 50 years in business
Throughout his decades of leadership, my uncle Dennis seeded faith in DeSimone Construction internally with our employees and externally with our clients, partners and community members. We’ll take a deeper dive into his stellar career in the next issue, so subscribe to our blog to stay informed.
Dennis formally transitioned the leadership role of DeSimone Construction to me in 2020, and I’m humbled to follow in his footsteps. With his and my father Al’s continued support, I’m also committed to continuing the company’s dedication to construction excellence and growing our presence in Eastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey.
Thanks for your interest and support for almost 50 years. To learn more about our company, check out this recent taping Dennis and I completed for the Family Business World show.

Auto lenders enlisted DeSimone’s services on a new space they leased in Newtown Square. The property when first acquired consisted of three deteriorating buildings with tremendous road frontage and visibility. Over the course of 4.5 months, we transformed the exterior facades to fit the Auto Lenders Brand, and completely renovated the center building interior used for the main sales and service shop at the Newtown Square Dealership.
Chris and Amanda hired DeSimone Construction to help transform their new home from a building grade house to a custom home. The renovation required gutting both floors completely and restructuring all interior finishes.
A couple of years later, Chris and Amanda contacted DeSimone again to make their dream basement a reality, complete with a movie room, game room, full bathroom, wet bar and wine cellar.
When Rastelli Foods Group needed to expand its office space to meet its staff's future needs, the company contracted with DeSimone Construction to make its new office complex exceptional! This new 12,000 square foot structure at 300 Heron Drive in Swedesboro, NJ, features a grand skylit atrium, creative lighting design, frosted glass office walls, and contrasting yet complementing metal, wood and other finishes that impress occupants and visitors alike.
As an industry leader in the food processing industry, supplying the finest hotels, restaurants, institutions, and retail markets with the highest quality food products and service, Rastelli Foods Group values and wants the best for its employees. As such, the company kept their wellbeing in mind as it merged technology and design to create this new work space. As noted in Corporate Wellness Magazine, “Lighting is an essential part of the workplace. Reduced exposure to natural light at work may cause fatigue, moodiness, headaches, and even sleep disturbances. These not only compromise productivity but also lead to long-term health problems including depression and cognitive decline." Rastelli's new office complex not only provides exposure to natural light, but encourages employees to occasional look up and remember that the sky's the limit!
The new complex features three hi-tech conference rooms, 14 fixed and 32 modular offices, 46 workstations, four restrooms, and a modernized kitchen, all stylishly furnished with form and function in mind. As Rastelli also sets goals to increase its sustainability and reduce its carbon footprint across several aspects of its business, DeSimone Construction mastered every detail to ensure the new space was not only comfortable, but also energy-efficient and sustainable.
DeSimone recently completed a full remodel of Rastelli Foods Group’s test kitchen. The new cooking studio set, with table seating for 16 and bar seating for four, now serves as a multipurpose room for use as a test kitchen, special value studio, and meeting space. With its light colors and textures, the space is both elegant and functional, and makes quite the first impression when you enter through its glass doors from the main office of the company’s Swedesboro, NJ, facility.
When an opportunity arose for a special outdoor QVC shoot, Rastelli’s Foods Group came up with an idea to construct an outdoor kitchen at its Swedesboro, NJ, facility. With four weeks to bring this idea to reality, the company called on DeSimone Construction to build its inviting oasis, complete with all the staples one could want in an outdoor kitchen. The patio, which includes an outdoor fountain, surround sound speakers, full service outdoor kitchen, hardscape patio and seating, and lavish landscaping, is now continuously enjoyed by Rastelli’s employees and guests.
With its commercial clients expanding their food offerings and growth in its national home delivery service program, Rastelli’s Foods Group needed additional warehouse space in its Swedesboro, NJ, location to meet its growing demand. This world-class provider of food products called on DeSimone Construction to build its state-of-the-art 40,000 square feet cold storage expansion. The project includes six loading docks and a 15,000 square feet freezer.
DeSimone Construction transformed the interior and exterior of this 7,000 square-foot office building into a fourth medical practice for Advocare Arthritis Osteoporosis & Rheumatology Associates (AAORA), run by Dr. Vijay Singh. DeSimone Construction branded the new location to suit Advocare’s other practices in Sewell, Vineland and Mt. Laurel (also built by Desimone Construction). The newly renovated building includes 11 exam rooms, nurse and PA stations, five private offices, and an infusion suite.
