Thomas Foods: Expansion & Renovation Project

Thomas Foods Expansion & Renovation Project

DeSimone recently completed a significant expansion and renovation project for Thomas Foods, successfully navigating the challenges of upgrading an active industrial facility while helping position the company for increased capacity, efficiency, and long-term growth.

As demand continues to rise for reliable temperature-controlled logistics, food processors and distributors require facilities that can support increasingly complex supply chain demands while maintaining strict standards for safety, efficiency, and product integrity. Thomas Foods International, an industry leader distributing more than 100 million pounds of meat products annually, recognized the need to expand and modernize its Lakeside Processing Facility in Swedesboro, NJ.

Operating from a 125,000-square-foot facility at 2600 Oldmans Creek Road that supports hundreds of employees, Thomas Foods manages everything from cold storage and processing to packaging and distribution. The company partnered with DeSimone for a comprehensive renovation and expansion project that included exterior improvements, interior renovations, and a new building addition.

Cold storage and food processing facilities require specialized construction expertise due to the precise environmental controls needed to maintain temperature, humidity, and product quality. DeSimone’s experience managing complex commercial and industrial projects allowed the team to navigate the unique challenges of expanding an active processing facility while coordinating structural upgrades, interior improvements, and exterior construction simultaneously.

DeSimone managed the integration of new infrastructure, facility enhancements, and upgraded employee spaces. The renovations reflect a modern approach to workplace design. The completed facility features a full-view conference room, spacious break room filled with natural light, a chef’s kitchen, upgraded office environments, improved exterior walkways, and durable, support areas designed for an industrial setting.

DeSimone utilized time-lapse technology to capture the construction process from start to finish. This innovative approach provided a visual record of progress, documented project milestones, supported quality assurance efforts, and gave the Thomas Foods team greater insight throughout construction.

DeSimone is honored to have played a role in supporting Thomas Foods’ continued growth by helping transform its facility into a more efficient, modern, and capable operation.
